Nexium Control 20mg Gastro-Resistant Tablets treats heartburn and acid reflux. They are suitable for short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (heartburn, acid regurgitation) in adults, aged 18 or over.
Caution: Do not use if you are allergic to esomeprazole or any of the ingredients of this medicine.
How to use:

GlaxoSmithKline is launching the biggest ever generic version of its heartburn medicine Nexium to counter the growing threat of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
The new medication, which will be available in two different forms - a 20-mg and 40-mg capsule-type formulation, will be made by AstraZeneca and will be sold by its original patent-protected subsidiary, Sandoz, on the European market.
The company, which has more than 40 years of experience in the pharma industry, has been working on a new version of the medicine since 2011.
The company has been in demand for years and is hoping to have the product in the UK in the first quarter of 2013.
Efforts to commercialise the new version will not only be focused on Nexium but will also target patients who may be at risk of heart attack or stroke. It will be available at pharmacies, on the NHS and on the World Health Organisation’s list of Essential Medicines.
“We believe that the launch of the generic version will provide a new, affordable option for people struggling with heart disease, so they can save money on their prescription visits,” said David Graham, Chief Executive Officer of Sandoz. “This launch is a direct response to the challenges faced by patients and their families, particularly when generic versions are the only options available.
“Patients and their families have been threatened by heart disease, and in many cases they may be at increased risk of complications. The launch of the new medication will not only give hope to patients but also highlight the importance of the right treatment for heart problems,” Graham added.
Sandoz’s new product is the first of its kind to provide generic relief from acid reflux, a common condition that can lead to heart attacks and strokes. It contains the same active ingredients as Nexium, but is produced by AstraZeneca and is marketed by Sandoz.
AstraZeneca’s own patents on Sandoz’s Nexium drug were set to expire in November 2013.
AstraZeneca’s current patent on Sandoz’s Nexium drug expired in May 2014, and generic versions of Nexium and Prilosec’s Prilosec generic version are now available at most pharmacies.
In April 2017, AstraZeneca began selling generic versions of AstraZeneca’s branded heartburn treatment Prilosec and Nexium, and Sandoz launched the brand-name version in April.
The company’s UK patent on Prilosec is set to expire in 2017, while its Nexium generic version is protected by an exclusive global patent.
“We are pleased to introduce Sandoz’s generic version of Nexium to the UK market. This innovative treatment is a major step forward in our commitment to the UK’s heart health market and has the potential to reduce the need for prescription heartburn medication,” AstraZeneca said in a statement.
Sandoz’s Nexium product is now the UK’s only treatment for acid reflux and is available for free from a select number of pharmacies.
